Your Monthly Guide to the Astrological Weather for February 2014…
SOLI-LUNAR PHASES
Over the course of a year, the solstices and equinoxes of the Sun mark out the changing seasons, which affect not only the beginning of different natural cycles, but our moods and choice of activities; whilst on a smaller scale, the Moon’s phases make up the time-span of a month. In fact, the etymology of the word month, comes from the Indo-European word, ‘me(n)ses’, meaning “moon.” 1
During this period, the Moon also moves through the zodiac, with every progressive full or new moon cycle occurring in the sign more or less following that of the previous month.
Lunar Phases
NEW MOON IN AQUARIUS – 30 January 2014
Towards the end of January, we experienced a New Moon in Aquarius. This event, which also happened to be a Super Moon, began a fresh month-long cycle during which new technologies, software or apps, especially those that enhance our experiences around food, the home, or can be used to stay in touch with loved ones, is likely to be emphasised. FULL MOON IN LEO – 14 February 2014
Valentine’s Day this year looks to be super special. As well as being interesting numerologically – 14/02/2014, it is a Full Moon. Taking place at 23h53 GMT (18h53 EST/01h53 SAST) in the flamboyant sign of Leo, this particular phase of the annual lunar cycle is likely to coincide with dramatic declarations, lavish romantic gestures and plenty of fun. So put on your most dazzling smile, dress to impress and don’t do anything by halves would be my advice. Not really the year to forget, be cheap or too understated I’m afraid! My advice: Go big or go home. That’s Leo for you. On a more mundane level, this is also a good time to promote yourself or a pet project, especially if you are in the creative arts, as well as close a deal on luxury goods or items.
Solar Phases
SUN INTO PISCES – 18 February 2014
This year, the Sun will ingress into sensitive and compassionate Pisces on the 18th at 18h00 GMT (13h00 EST/20h00 SAST). Not long afterwards, on the 23rd to be precise, it makes a conjunction with the modern ruler of Pisces – watery Neptune. This creates an atmosphere in which the seemingly conflicting energies of ego/self-promotion vs. compassion/spirituality, drama vs. serenity are able to combine successfully. Creative endeavours are likely to be imbued with a certain subtle, if ethereal glamour. Personal or business initiatives involving cleansing or water, or which have a social enterprise or charitable dimension to them, are likely to go well now.
Planetary Events & Energy Shifts throughout February 2014
Retrogrades and Stations
Mercury Retrograde: 6 February 2014
Mercury will retrograde in Pisces for the first time this year, between 6-28 February. Thinking processes are likely to be cloudy or confused during this time, so don’t attempt anything too precise, like mathematical calculations or formulae, for example. When it comes to contracts and verbal agreements, an inability to clearly express what you mean or drive a hard bargain could lead to misunderstandings and raw deals. Be warned: deception and flakiness are both negative expressions of this transit, so be sure to ask people to confirm everything in writing and be careful who you choose to confide in because others may become a little loose-lipped or inadvertently let a secret slip out, leading to scandal.
Planetary Ingresses
Mercury back into Aquarius: 13 February 2014
With Mercury due to retrograde this month, the planet of travel and communications will be retracing its steps through the zodiac and re-entering Aquarius on the 13th, where it will remain for the rest of the month. Once Mercury does so, it is highly likely that breaches of online security may occur, so you want to take extra precautions when it comes to using mobile phone banking apps or making online purchases, especially on the 19th when Mercury squares Saturn. E-mails and text messages could also go awry now, leading to embarrassing or awkward social situations. You can also expect a return to certain situations or issues that may have preoccupied your thoughts and discussions during January. Key Aspects
Sun & Mercury trine Mars: 15-16 February
Over these two days, first the Sun and then Mercury will trine Mars in Libra, making it a great time for resolving ongoing relationship or legal problems, as well as making headway in political negotiations that may have ground to a halt. With Mercury retrograde, the key will be to use this dynamic, go-getting energy on pre-existing or past issues, rather than start new initiatives or projects. If you have been trying to promote a new technology, campaign for a political or social cause, or enlarge your network of influential friends and associates, then this is an excellent time in which to try and approach certain key individuals or groups again for a second bite at the apple. Motivation levels will be high now, allowing you to get to the bottom of a long-standing problem or hold-up, especially if it is one with a long history. Cutting through red tape, expressing yourself authentically and putting together technical reports are also favoured now.
Jupiter square Uranus: 26 February
A progression from the developments at the end of last month when Jupiter opposed Pluto, this square is likely to result in a fair amount of emotional tension and antagonism, especially when it comes to family or property matters, technology and it’s place in removing people from society, as well as the whole issue of greed and self-interest that seems to pervade the capitalist system, especially within industries such as banking. Given that the Cancer-Capricorn opposition between the positions of Jupiter and Pluto seemed to represent the State/powers that be versus the little guy/families, it seems likely that, with this astrological development, people’s sense of outrage at how little has changed since the crash of 2008 may now erupt into civil unrest, demonstrations or strikes. Rebelliousness of all kinds is likely, especially amongst teenage or young adult members of the family. Complications with a pregnancy, especially sudden and unexpected ones, may also arise now, so take extra care healthwise but also try not to panic – seeking out medical advice is the wisest course of action, rather than worrying or taking unnecessary risks. In fact, people’s judgement is very likely to be affected now, leading to impulsiveness, recklessness and a tendency to exaggerate or make hasty, perhaps premature pronouncements. Tension could also erupt between teams or small groups of people at home or at work, especially where one party wishes to take a leap of faith and others are more cautious and don’t like the idea of uncertainty. This difference of approach is also likely to be felt amongst investors in global markets – on the one hand, some people may be unrealistic optimistic in their estimations about the state of the global economy or the share price estimations of a particular company, leading to irresponsible trading or volatility in the marketplace; whilst others may be too suspicious of the unknown and afraid to do anything out of the ordinary, leading to stand-offs or an unwillingness to invest. This is likely to affect the housing and construction markets, as well as food, catering, anything to do with the military or medical machinery and tech companies. The thing to bear in mind is that Jupiter is still retrograde and will remain so until 6 March, so any form of expansion should probably be put off until then because it seems unlikely that new schemes or plans will really take off while Jupiter is in this weakened state.
