FULL MOON 26 AUGUST 2018 12H56 BST – 3 DEGREES PISCES
After the Leo solar eclipse earlier this month, it’s time to regroup and consolidate. The Pisces Full Moon asks us to consider what we need to let go of, or sacrifice in order to move forward and realise the goals or intentions we set at the New Moon. Read my forecast below for more details…
The August Full Moon, which takes place in sensitive and ephemeral Pisces, brings with it a rather different energy to that of the previous New Moon eclipse in fiery Leo. The Moon in Pisces often calls into question the need to examine emotional and psychological boundaries because it is a very open-ended and inclusive sign.
Pisces is also strongly associated with self-sacrifice and submitting to a higher source or power. However, it can also become a little bit escapist and matyrish if not checked by any sort of limitation. It’s all very well to give up your needs or goals in order to help someone else in the expectation that they will have the good sense not to take advantage of your better nature, but all too often, this is not the case. If you have been abused or taken advantage of by somebody in the past, then why should this time be different? Consider this before being too selfless – once bitten twice shy. No need to be the fool in order to be a good person.
Other qualities associated with Moon in Pisces include: empathy, psychological sensitivity, allergies, oceanic feelings, spiritual inspiration, creativity, selflessness and compassion.
August’s Full Moon takes place in the 4th degree of Pisces. The Sabian Symbol for this degree is:
Heavy traffic on a narrow isthmus linking two seaside resorts.
Such a symbol evokes a liminal or in-between state – a condition that comes naturally to the sign of Pisces – and it’s ruler, Neptune, in particular. Notice that we are talking about the relationship between land and sea, between solid and liquid, earth and water. The heavy traffic evokes a sense of sluggishness or congestion, rather like blocked sinuses or lymph glands (my ears have been playing up recently – what about you?) One’s knee-jerk inclination is to try and to speed things up or clear things out in order to get things flowing again, which may involve redirecting certain energies, prioritising some things over others, or alternatively, allowing nature to take it’s course. Sometimes rivers or roads get silted or blocked up, which gives us time to assess whether we are headed in the right direction without wasting too much time and energy if we decide to course-correct.
Lynda Hill suggests that this degree can be associated with a feeling of being trapped, or of stagnation:
“You may feel like you are getting stuck in a pattern that continually bounces back and forth, never arriving at any final or desirable destination. This can be very tiring. It is important to realize that although being “squeezed-in” can bring on a sense of panic or discomfort, the chances are that it will not be permanent and there is probably something better and more pleasurable waiting for you once you get out of the current situation.”
However, because it occurs in such close proximity to a Venus-Pluto square, and during a Sun-Uranus-Saturn grand trine, my sense is that we are less likely to experience these sorts of effects this time around because the impetus for change and reform is too strong for people to simply settle or compromise too much.
Other keywords include:
Keywords: Going with the flow. Running back and forth. Having to move continually. Pollution and car exhaust. Rush hour and road-rage. Plans for arrivals and departures. Public holidays. Traffic jams. Traffic banking up. Having trouble making left hand turns. Detours. Packing and unpacking. Luggage. Travel itineraries. Impasses. Nervous systems. Urine therapy. Constant phone calls. Switchboard jams. Heat and smog.
The Caution: Creating barriers. Constant traffic stopping the possibility of real human interchange. Claustrophobia. Feeling like there is no escape. Exhaustion due to everyday hustle and bustle. Running out of fuel. Accidents. Taking the long way round. Blockages.
At the time of the Full Moon, the Moon will be separating from a conjunction to the fixed star, Fomalhaut. This star, which forms part of the southern fish, or Alpha Piscis Austrinus, in the constellation of Pisces, has mixed meanings. On the one hand, it is associated with the Archangel Gabriel and therefore the gifts of psychic ability and/or prophetic dreams; and on a more mundane level, with fame and good fortune, especially in relation to artistic pursuits. However, there is often a catch: gain usually follows loss, and sometimes there is a sense of having to pay a price in order to attain what we are seeking. According to Astrology King, this combination was traditionally associated with:
Secret business causing much trouble and enmity, but eventual gain after many difficulties. The separation is more benefic than the application.
If we consider that this star was very prominent during the last American Presidential Election, then it is possible that we may see further developments revelations concerning behind-the-scenes wheeling and dealing, election fraud or secret collusion between now and the start of the next lunar phase.
On a personal note, you may want to consider whether certain personal compromises or emotional sacrifices, particularly with regards to loved ones, are actually worth it, especially given the Venus-Pluto square happening on the same day. It is entirely possible that someone may be taking advantage of your better nature and that your desire to relate at any costs comes with a high price tag attached…
Change is what is called for – and with the help of communication, a strong sense of moral conviction and a little ingenuity, it is just possible that over the next two weeks, you can affect major shifts within key relationships which may not have been conceivable before now. This is especially likely as we near September’s Jupiter-Pluto sextile which around the 12th. So don’t lose heart: getting tough doesn’t necessarily have to mean losing someone close to you, but it does mean being open to the idea of change and having the courage of your convictions.
Luckily, the Full Moon will key into this weekend’s grand trine in earth signs, which is all about radical change but in an entirely pragmatic and well-thought through format. The involvement of the Virgo Sun and Saturn in Capricorn also adds an element of discernment and realism to proceedings. As a result, you and others may be in a better place to face up to the truth of a particular association and take steps to either introduce better boundaries or simply clarify any confusion that may have been exacerbated via the Moon in Pisces.
Being clear about what is and is not acceptable is another way of stating your needs/expectations, thus reducing the possibility of deception by omission, or loss due to vagueness.
The upshot then: choosing to be firm but kind, brave but sensitive could lead to very real – and positive – changes in relationships, emotional/behavioural patterns and habits over the next two weeks.
Positive changes are possible now if you can embrace qualities such as clarity, realism, determination and a strong sense of moral conviction. The key will be to avoid any form of denial, deception, trade-offs or moral weakness and instead embrace a willingness to develop core inner strength, state your needs and be clear about your boundaries. Key life structures have the potential to shift for the better now , allowing you to develop inner strength, increased self-confidence and emotional security. What are you waiting for?
