Your Monthly Guide to the Astrological Weather for October 2013…

October Astro-Insights Blog

This month, I hope to look at the recent spate of terrorist attacks in Kenya and Nigeria to see what the astrology can tell us, if anything. However, due to heavy work commitments, this column is going to be a bit late. Keep checking the AA Facebook page and the Astro-Insights blog for further updates.

SOLI-LUNAR PHASES

Over the course of a year, the solstices and equinoxes of the Sun mark out the changing seasons, which affect not only the beginning of different natural cycles, but our moods and choice of activities; whilst on a smaller scale, the Moon’s phases make up the time-span of a month. In fact, the etymology of the word month, comes from the Indo-European word, ‘me(n)ses’, meaning “moon.” 1

During this period, the Moon also moves through the zodiac, with every progressive full or new moon cycle occurring in the sign more or less following that of the previous month.

Lunar Phases

NEW MOON IN LIBRA – 5 October 2013

Thanks to a New Moon in relationship-oriented Libra on the 5th at 01h35 BST, we can look forward to a month in which collaboration and partnerships of all kinds are well-favoured. This is especially true of new initiatives and projects, as well as matters concerning the law, gender or racial equality. Efforts aimed at creating balance in all things, especially lifestyle, should also go well between now and the next New Moon. If you’ve been working too much and neglecting loved ones, or putting a lot of investment into one-sided relationships, then you may wish to reorganise your priorities and reassess the give and take in key associations. Under this lunar phase, the emotional focus is very much outward, making you feel more extroverted and sociable than usual, seeking out the company and opinions of others in both work and play, and making an effort to consider the needs and happiness of loved ones before your own, are likely to be major themes now.

FULL MOON LUNAR ECLIPSE IN ARIES – 19 October 2013

October’s Full Moon in Aries, which is scheduled to take place on the 19th just after midnight (00h38 BST), also happens to be a lunar eclipse. Given the emotional nature of Full Moons, the unpredictable quality of eclipses and the impulsive, rather fiery nature of Aries, this could be a rather unsettling time when sudden, unexpected events bring disagreements, individual initiatives, or military campaigns to a head. This could result in fireworks or clashes with authority, especially if others have attempted to control you or refused to listen to your needs or feelings.

At the same time, Mars, the ruler of Aries, will be very close to an exact opposition with Neptune in Pisces, which could have a polarising effect. On one hand, you may feel feisty and ready to defend yourself against unwelcome criticism, possible deception or unsolicited assistance that comes with strings attached. On the other, you may feel like a helpless victim in need of saving or of sympathy. The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. The trick is to avoid self-deception, escapism or attempts to avert responsibility whilst also learning to assert yourself confidently without the need to be too defensive or aggressive about it.

Any self-initiated projects or attempts at independence that you have been working on over the last six months or so, are likely to reach their natural climax, or conclusion now.

Solar Phases

SUN INTO SCORPIO – 23 October 2013

This year, the Sun will ingress into passionate and loyal Scorpio on the 23rd of October at around 07h10 BST. This kick starts a month long cycle in which matters concerning sex, death, legacies, tax, the use or abuse of power, and recycling or regeneration are likely to become prominent. Interestingly, this is the day that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have chosen to christen their first born son, Prince George. Given that he has Scorpio rising, I wonder if this was deliberate? At any rate, this is a good time to work on personal charisma and how to win friends and influence others, as well as get to the bottom of who really calls the shots and why.

Planetary Events & Energy Shifts throughout October 2013

Planetary Ingresses

Venus in Sagittarius: 7 October -5 November
Venus once again changes signs on October the 7th, this time into fun and freedom loving Sagittarius. As a result, you may find yourself with itchy feet, restless for adventure. If you can’t take off for exotic destinations or to find yourself in a wilderness retreat or beauty spa, then use this time to immerse yourself in art, literature or documentaries about travel, foreign cultures or religions – it should cure your wanderlust. Discussing philosophy over coffee or lunch with someone attractive should also prove to be highly pleasurable. In fact, cultural organisations, religious festivals and educational talks are all really good places to get inspired, or to meet someone special between now and early November.

Mars into Virgo – 15 October – 7 December
After a tour of fiery and regal Leo, Mars will ingress into practical and efficient Virgo. If you’ve been keen to lock down the details of a project or contract, or concentrate more on your health, then this should be the perfect time to do so. You’ll have plenty of drive to drill down and fine-tune things at home and at work. Nutrition and digestive problems, as well as physical exercise, are all good areas to tackle over the next few weeks. You’ll also find others less diva-like and more helpful – just as well because there is a lot to do between now and the winter holiday season, so the less fuss, the better. Just be careful of becoming too fussy, critical or pedantic – Virgo brings out the perfectionist in all of us, and Mars isn’t one to hold back, which can lead to a lot of whingeing and cutting remarks if you’re not careful.

Planetary Stations

Mercury: 21 October – 11 November
After several months of rapid movement through the zodiac, Mercury, the planet of merchants, travellers, politicians and orators, turns retrograde for a few weeks from the 21st of October. This will prolong its stay in perceptive and probing Scorpio. The net effect is likely to be a complete revision and intensive investigation of past issues, especially those that involve power struggles, criminal activity, intrigue and mystery or possibly, dubious financial transactions. If you are a researcher or forensic scientist, this should be a good time for you to go over old cases, check your initial findings and figures to see whether you missed anything the first time around. Delving into the past, perhaps into your family history, could also lead you to uncover a long-buried secret now. Beware of becoming overly obsessed with taboo subjects or people you really shouldn’t involve yourself with, either because they hold power over you, have murky connections or are simply not good for you emotionally. If anything, this period should remind you of the reasons why some things or people became part of your history and are part of not your present.

Key Aspects

October brings with it a number of important transits that might be worth diarising, including:

  • 1-3 October: T-square of Sun square Pluto, opposing Uranus
In the lead up to the Libran New Moon on the 5th, a challenging cardinal T-Square with the Sun in Libra at its apex, will force you to confront certain long-standing relationship issues and accept that the status quo is no longer working. Cracks may begin to appear in any partnerships or associations that are inherently corrupt, unequal or simply draining. At this time you could find yourself or a former ally walking away from involvement in a situation that makes you feel insignificant, stifled, unheard, overly burdened or morally compromised.

Globally, this could lead to fundamental shifts in the balance of world power as redundant alliances and outdated agreements fall by the wayside. This is a time when the old ways will be challenged by the new, with both sides vying for position. Compromise and a firm but impartial sense of fairness may be the only way to resolve this battle between extremes. Regime change, political survival, legal legitimacy and calls for the protection of human rights and civilian freedoms are all likely to be themes now.

  • 8 October: Mercury conjunct Saturn in Scorpio
A rather serious and unforgiving air may descend today as Mercury and Saturn connect in relentless and uncompromising Scorpio. The first of three contacts between these two planets, thanks to Mercury’s upcoming retrograde spell, this particular combination calls for deep and thorough research and consideration of all available options before finalising any major decisions, plans, negotiations or contracts, especially those related to tax, underground engineering or energy exploration projects, and book/manuscript restoration. Policy alterations or announcements concerning recycling, banned substances or activities, or law enforcement are all likely to become a focus now. Given that Mercury and Saturn will meet up again on 29 October 29 and 25 November, the need to do your research and consider all the angles and options before reaching a final workable solution seems like the best way to proceed. The stakes are high, so it will be important to get it right.

  • 12 Oct: Sun square Jupiter
Today you might find it difficult to penetrate the inner circle of influence in order to be granted favours, no matter how worthy you are in terms of skills or experience. This is because fairness and merit will have no sway with those who wish to protect family interests and maintain close social connections with centres of power or authority. The trick, then, will be to accept that the path to the top is not always straightforward, and will often involve winning over the hearts and minds of decision-makers more swayed by personal bias and social cliques than personal ability or ideals. On a personal level, you may find yourself tending toward an overly rosy, possibly naïve attitude towards relationships, or else a tad too dogmatic or over the top when it comes to maintaining certain domestic conventions. Being charming but not too egotistical or presumptuous is probably the best way to ingratiate yourself and/or fulfil your objectives now.

  • 16 October: Venus trine Uranus
Peace talks, unusual hook-ups and exciting new associations are all possible now as Venus in Sagittarius trines Uranus in Aries. Artistically and culturally, this is an excellent moment to celebrate youthful idealism and innovation. Freedom within relationships and personal inter-dependence are also likely to be themes at this time. Learning new things and connecting with others will seem effortless, while, in social situations, people will feel at ease in your company and no one will judge those with slightly unconventional looks or ideas. You can also look forward to plenty of stimulating intellectual conversations about topics such as new technologies, the pro and cons of different philosophies and travel to far flung places.

  • 25 October: Sun trine Neptune
Having ingressed into watery Scorpio on the 23rd, the Sun then moves towards a flowing and harmonious angle to oceanic Neptune. This should help to put you in tune with energies, inspiration or ideas usually beyond your conscious grasp, making it a great time for artistic efforts, spiritual healing or meditation. Music, film and photography will have an especially profound, almost hypnotic effect now, so if you are trying to contact higher realms of consciousness, then be sure to make use of these channels to help you do so. Personal power is mixed with compassion for others, enabling you to make intuitive but wise and considerate decisions.

Your Monthly Guide to the Astrological Weather for September 2013…

September Astro-Insights Blog

This month, I look more in-depth into the natal chart of Prince George and try to put him in context astrologically with other members of the royal family . To read more, visit September’s Astro-Insights blog .

NEW MOON IN VIRGO – 5 September 2013

This September, the lunar month will begin on the 5th of August at 12h36 BST with a New Moon in practical, details-oriented Virgo. The next 30 days should be a favourable time to begin new writing or editing projects, arts n’ crafts initiatives, and health or pet-related endeavours. It is also excellent for spring cleaning, hygiene improvements, as well as assisting someone in charge with the details and logistics they don’t have time to do. Virgo is the constellation most associated with agriculture and the harvest, so gardening tasks, such as planting bulbs, dead-heading, pruning or tool cleaning, should also prove to be satisfying now. On the minus side, you may want to beware of perfectionist or overly critical tendencies during this time.

FULL MOON IN PISCES – 19 September 2013

Unlike the previous two years, this month’s Full Moon will take place in sensitive and imaginative Pisces, making it a much more balanced September elementally. This will occur on the 19th at 12h13 BST. Given that Full Moons are usually pretty charged times, and that Pisces is a touchy-feely water sign, it seems likely that this lunar phase will be especially emotional. Although this bodes well for musical, photographic and film-related events, where the aim is to move people, it could prove to be overwhelming for those who are already prone to feeling overwhelmed or stressed by the suffering or baggage of others, so try to be considerate to those around you by not unburdening yourself unnecessarily, being too self-indulgent or especially touchy. Avoid overdosing on medicines – read the labels carefully – and take it easy when it comes to alcohol and drugs. With Venus due to sextile Pluto on the same day, you may need your wits about you because it’s all change when it comes to money and relationships.

Solar Phases – Autumn Equinox

SUN INTO LIBRA – 22 September 2013

This year, the Autumn Equinox takes place on the 22nd at around 21h44 BST. Currently, it is the zodiacal sign of Libra that rules the Autumn Equinox because the sun sets in this constellation around this time, when the hours of day and night are more or less equal. (Equi = equal and nox = nights). The spring and autumn equinoxes also mark the two times of the year when the sun rises due east and sets due west. According to the famous English herbalist, Nicholas Culpeper, the reason that the Sun is considered to be in fall in Libra, is because it coincides with a time when, ‘…the leaves of the trees fall, all creatures are lumpish, and mourn.’[i] As the sign that rules justice, equality, fairness and equilibrium, this month is likely to be one that focuses on the fairness or discriminatory nature of certain rules, laws and regulations, as well as business partnerships, one-to-one relationships, legal contracts and peace treaties.

Planetary Events & Energy Shifts throughout September 2013

Planetary Ingresses

Still moving rather quickly, Mercury, the swift-footed planet governing travel, communications, thinking processes, learning and commercial activities, will again pass through two whole signs during September, as it did last month. First up, Mercury ingresses into Libra on the 9th of September, from where it will highlight legal discussions and peace talks, as well as any gadgets or travel packages that focus on relationships and dating. In the news and fields of education, the emphasis will be on fair and balanced viewpoints.

Later, on the 29th, Mercury segues into sexy but complicated Scorpio, from where he will highlight medical research, crime reporting, in-depth and far-reaching reports, as well as commercial activities involving recycling, antiques, law enforcement, healing and forensics.

Venus remains in her domicile of Libra until the 11th of September after which she too ingresses into Scorpio. This is likely to up the temperature in the bedroom, as well as increase the likelihood of drama and intrigue in both business (think dodgy art deals) and romance. Be mysterious now if you want to lure a new lover, and be sure to ask a lot of questions if you are thinking of purchasing a work of art or valuable object – the paperwork might not be in order, or the provenance could be a little murky.

Planetary Stations

After a break of several months, Pluto now returns to direct motion on the 21st of September. This is likely to increase the pace and intensity of change when it comes to organisations you are affiliated with, as well as put more pressure on you or others to make some much-needed alterations to current plans, schedules, habits or routines. On the mundane level, it is very possible that we may hear more talk of banking reforms, official secrecy laws and spy-related activities, corporate restructures, market fluctuations or scandals involving tax evasion in the coming months. Dormant issues centering on structural engineering, especially the reinforcement of foundations, building work done in basements or underground, dental work and skin resurfacing/rejuvenating are all likely to return and need dealing with between now and April 2014.

Key Aspects

September brings with it several key transits that may be worth diarising. These include:

  • 1st to 7th  – A powerful meeting between the Sun, Pluto and Jupiter during this week, through a combination of trine and sextile aspects, makes it a crucial time for change in world politics, especially foreign policy, the morality and ethics of power (is might always right?), the role of religious and educational institutions in the development of society, and attitudes towards the family unit, and notions of roots, home and belonging. Those in leadership positions have a fantastic opportunity to make a big difference to current inequalities or confront injustices, such as continued reluctance to accept gay marriage or recognise the right of same-sex couples to have children, or to just show the world that politics can be done differently to the way it has been in the past. The same goes for large energy conglomerates and those in the food, childcare or home-building industries – a more ethical, but perhaps less fundamentalist approach is really the only way to survive and so the sooner those steering future policy realise that, the healthier and better off their companies, and society, will be in the long-term.On a personal level, this is likely to coincide with a time when changes to society’s approach to morality, religious tolerance and relationship with power stand to have impact on your personal life structures, forcing you to make some key decisions about fundamental issues. These include questions concerning religion, education, attitudes to foreigners and foreign countries, our relationship with questions of personal power and responsibility, and the way in which we express or assert ourselves in the world. Look to the placement of the Sun, Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn in your natal chart for clues as to how and in which area, these shifts are most likely to occur. However, given the positive nature of these aspects, any changes that occur now are likely to alter your life for the better in the long run.

  • 14th – A highly romantic and ethereal Venus-Neptune trine takes place today – brilliant for artistic inspiration, film launches, photographic exhibitions and dream dates.
    – On the same day, an exceptionally energetic and dynamic Mars-Uranus trine makes it likely that a revolutionary new piece of technology,
gadget or humanitarian initiative will be announced around this time.

  • 19th – A Venus-Pluto sextile gives us all a chance to heal any rifts or hurts caused by the challenging Venus-Pluto square that took place on the 25th of August

  • 21st – Thanks to a Saturn-Pluto sextile that will be in orb for most of the most, you can really move mountains and achieve a substantial amount of work now, if you put your mind to it. Expect plenty of opportunities for personal growth, perhaps through letting go, rather than acquiring new things. This is a good time to shed emotional baggage, financial dead weight and streamline the way you work.

  • 26th – A stellar Venus-Jupiter trine in water signs could see you strike it lucky in the area of relationships, especially with family members and lovers. Family-based or home-related affairs, as well as culinary-based initiatives, such as the opening of a restaurant business, should go exceptionally well now. Think of this as a continuation of the themes raised at the time of the Major Grand Trine in July and you won’t go far wrong.

Your Monthly Guide to the Astrological Weather for August 2013…

August Astro-Insights Blog

For the last two months, astrologers have been trying to predict the date of the royal birth, including yours truly. In my latest  blog piece, I  examine the nature of astrological prediction itself through the example of my own experiences of attempting to predict the royal birth .

NEW MOON IN LEO – 6 August 2013

The lunar month will begin on the 6th of August at 22h51 BST with a Sun-Moon conjunction in Leo. The 28 days or so that follow are therefore likely to revolve around self-expression, how to build up personal confidence, selling yourself, take on more responsibility and no doubt, more titbits about the royal new-born. Use this time to polish your PR or leadership skills and learn how to exude confidence and poise, even when you are secretly cracking up inside. A visit to the theatre may be just the ticket this month.

FULL MOON IN AQUARIUS – 21 August 2013

For the second month running, we will experience a Full Moon in Aquarius on the 21st of August at 02h45 BST. It is therefore likely that some of the themes left over from July will continue to get air time. These include equal rights and civil liberties, online etiquette and  internet/social networking regulation as well as popular political movements and technology projects. Having the courage to speak the truth and be yourself, no matter how much you think you stick out or don’t conform, is well-favoured now.

Solar Phases

SUN INTO VIRGO – 23 August 2013

During August, the Sun will ingress into Virgo, the sign of the harvest and the sacred feminine, at around 00h02 BST on the 23rd of August. On the same day, Mercury will also enter Virgo – the sign of its exaltation which should result in month-long period during which writing, editing, critiquing, gardening, carving and any arts or crafts involving the hands should go well.

Planetary Events & Energy Shifts throughout August 2013

Planetary Ingresses

This month, Mercury, planet of communication, travel and commerce, will be much more active than it has been in a while. As well as changing signs twice this month, entering Leo on the 8th; and Virgo, around the 23rd, Mercury will also make contact with inventive and original Uranus as well as two of the planets involved in last month’s major grand trine – lucky Jupiter and make-it-happen Saturn. Although there could be a lot of niggles and loose ends to sort out and through, especially on the 11th and 25th, you could make some major breakthroughs on the 15th that not only solve a long-standing technical, scientific or mechanical problem but also allow you to branch out in a brand new and exciting direction. Travel, especially by sea or to a coastal destination, is also a distinct possibility towards the end of the month, especially the 31st. If you have been nurturing plans for a new venture but not seen how they could possibly come to fruition, perhaps because of a lack of financial backing or, you could get the nod from the powers that be, or endorsement from a business or political heavyweight around the 27th.

Venus also ingresses into her own sign on the 16th of this month, after which love, equality for the sexes, political harmony and artistic or architectural symmetry are all more likely to happen. Passionate encounters and energetic exchanges are possible on the 2nd, so singles be prepared! However, relationships of all kinds will still need some attention, especially on the 24th, 26th and 27th. With all the Leo and Uranian energy around this month, it may be difficult to balance the need for freedom and independence with your obligations to others now.

Your Monthly Guide to the Astrological Weather for July 2013…

July Astro-Insights Blog

Given all the fever around the impending royal birth, I have decided to devote this month’s Astro-Insights blog to predicting the possible arrival date of the third in line to the English throne.

Lunar Phases

NEW MOON IN CANCER – 8 July 2013

On the 8th of July at 08h14 BST, we are due to experience a New Moon in Cancer. This will kick start a fresh month-long lunar cycle concerning child birth (the royal birth anyone?), motherhood, food, the home, and of course, the sea. Thanks to a stellium of planets in Cancer straddling the Sun-moon conjunction, including an exalted Jupiter, this is a highly auspicious time to purchase a new house, decorate or extend the family home, bring a child into the world or investigate your ancestral roots.

FULL MOON IN AQUARIUS – 22 July 2013

On the 22nd at 19h16 BST, a Full Moon in Aquarius will bring a month-long cycle concerning social ideals, democratic, gay rights or humanistic movements or technology projects to a conclusion. This is an excellent time to celebrate with friends or terminate a group association now, especially if it gets in the way of you being able to live your life authentically.

Solar Phases

SUN INTO LEO – 22 July 2013

This month, the Sun ingresses into Leo, the royal sign, at 16h56 BST on the 22nd of July – very close to the expected birth date of the first child of Prince William and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge. Although this could harbinger the arrival of a royal heir for the Cambridge’s, for us mere mortals, it is likely to be a time in which we attempt to improve our self-confidence, or alternatively, indulge in a little luxury or enjoy some time off having fun in the sun.

Planetary Events & Energy Shifts throughout July 2013

Royal Arrival Date

This month, many fans of the British royal family will be anxiously anticipating the birth of Kate Middleton and Prince William’s first child. Speculation about the exact birth date and time of the third in line to the throne has naturally, reached fever pitch, and has also been consuming the attention of many astrologers, including yours truly. I have therefore decided to devote July’s Astro-Insights blog to this topic. For the low down on which dates look the juiciest for a royal birth from an astrological point of view, visit: http://wp.me/p3d6Dk-8B

However, that’s not the only event set to grab the astrological headlines this month. In fact, we have a number of important planetary shifts to look forward to which may well have a bearing on our own lives, as well as those cycles governing world events.

Major Grand Trine in Water Signs

The first and most important of these is a Jupiter-Saturn-Neptune major grand trine. Following in the footsteps of the Sun and Venus, both of which have taken their turn to make similar flowing contacts to Saturn and Neptune during May and June, this particular grand trine represents a sort of pinnacle in matters creative, emotional and spiritual in which major philosophical, energetic and spiritual shifts in society are possible.

To give you an idea of how rare this event is, Jupiter and Saturn only make a conjunction to each other every 20 years whilst Saturn and Neptune only meet once every 30 years, so to have all three major planets come together like this is highly unusual. This combination of planets last occurred around 1967, albeit in a different combination of signs and its exact replica has not occurred in the last two millennia. That should give you an idea of just how special this date really is, so mark it in your diary and be sure to take advantage of this truly uplifting energy to make some positive changes in your life.

For further details on what to expect from this headline event, be sure to catch my daily astro-insights on Facebook in days leading up to this event, which is due to take place between the 17th and 19th of July.

Planetary Ingresses

I thought I should mention the ingress of Jupiter into Cancer late last month. This is rather significant for a number of reasons. Firstly, it marks the passage of Jupiter into the sign of its exaltation, which means that those of us tired of austerity and rather lacklustre prospects can look forward to a year-long period of growth, prosperity and fertility. This is likely to be especially true if you have a strong Jupiter in your chart, or if you have Cancer or one of the other cardinal signs prominently placed.

Jupiter is the planet of learning, philosophy, the law, culture, religion expansion and travel par excellence, so hopefully during this timeframe, we should see a lot more religious tolerance and a growing sense of respect for the sanctity of motherhood and family – something that has taken quite a beating in Western culture over the last few decades. In its pure form, this placing is excellent for adding an extension to your home, going travelling with or to see, family and for practising family law. The rules relating to what constitutes marriage and/or family in a religious context may also undergo positive changes during this period. There may also be breakthroughs in scientific research related to fertility, child development and childbirth now.

Following Jupiter’s footsteps, Mars is also due to ingress into Cancer this month (13th) although being the lesser malefic, this could lead to family arguments and domestic discord in the short term. On the 26th, however, it also takes a turn to trine Saturn and Neptune, which should

Venus is also changing signs this month, entering Virgo on the 22nd of July. Like Mars in Cancer, Venus is not terribly happy in this sign traditionally – virginal Virgo is the sign of Venus’ detriment, so don’t be surprised if you suddenly get a little prudish about sex or nudity, or feel the need to shower more frequently. This combination is best expressed in terms of vegetation – Virgo is the grain goddess after all, so gardening, flower arranging, spa visits and pantry spring cleaning are all very positive outlets for this type of energy.

Retrogrades and Stationings

Saturn and Mercury will also return to direct motion this month; the former, stationing around the 21st; and the latter, at the New Moon on the 8th. This should return all forms of communication and intellectual pursuits to more normal functioning, which is always good news. And in a reversal of this pattern, Uranus will retrograde, starting on the 17th until mid-December, which should take the pressure off those world leaders feeling under attack from angry social reformers and disaffected youth.

NEW MOON IN GEMINI – 8 June 2013

On the 8th of June at 16h56 BST, the New Moon in Gemini will usher in a fresh four week lunar cycle, especially in education, communication, media, self-expression, travel, politics and social activities. This is a good time to make a speech, start a new course or writing project, or make contact with a journalist or MP to further a cause.

FULL MOON IN CAPRICORN – 23 June 2013

On the 23rd at 12h32 BST, a Full Moon in Capricorn concludes a month-long cycle concerning your attitudes towards social conformity, rules, social acceptance, power and authority. You could receive recognition from the establishment or break from a long-held family tradition now.

Solar Phases

SUN INTO CANCER – 21 June 2013

This year, the summer solstice, marked by the Sun’s ingress into family-orientated and home-loving Cancer, takes place on the 21st of June at 06h04 BST. This marks the start of a brand new four-week period during which you may be drawn to activities such as home decorating, cooking, baking, shopping for homewares, spending time nesting with loved ones, or going on a seaside or sailing holiday. This month, the Sun ingresses into Leo, the royal sign, at 16h56 BST on the 22nd of July – very close to the expected birth date of the first child of Prince William and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge. Although this could be a harbinger of the arrival of a royal heir for the Cambridge’s, for us mere mortals, it is more likely to be a time during which we attempt to improve our self-confidence, or alternatively, indulge in a little luxury or enjoy some time off having fun in the sun.

Planetary Events & Energy Shifts throughout June 2013

During March, we can look forward to a number of positive Neptune contacts, which should give us an opportunity to explore our deeper spiritual connections to small groups with whom we feel connected, including our immediate family. DNA analysis that allows us to explore our genetic heritage, an examination of the karmic dimension of family groups or clans, genealogy and pilgrimages to places associated with our ancestors are also possible ways to express this energy. Another is to research the history of your home or a family property. If you are thinking of buying any real estate, go with your gut feeling about a place – your instincts and intuitive abilities are likely to be strong now.

Dates to diarise:

  •  3 June – Mercury trine Neptune – when you may feel compelled to write about or visit a large body of water

  • 7 June – when time spent with family should be pleasurable and peaceful. On the down side, you may want to avoid any discussions about religion or politics now, as this could lead to arguments.

  • 11 June – when making important changes to your dietary habits or taking steps to resolve a nagging health problem could really get you impressive results. Alternatively, you could decide to take a more laid back, compassionate or philosophical approach to leadership, which promises to pay off big time on the 26th

  • 26 June – when a male family member could offer you some really important advice or assistance, possibly in connection with a medical, spiritual or health matter.

  •  Tensions stirred up around last month’s Uranus-Pluto square are likely to return as all the personal planets take their turn to clash with the planetary rebel.

Days to watch out for disruptive, unexpected or wilful behaviour are:

  • 8 June – when you could get into an unexpectedly heated argument about a childcare, dietary or domestic issue

  • 12 June – when you and a lover, creative type or money man could come to blows, possibly about living arrangements, food budget or a mortgage

  • Fortunately, there will also be a few positive days in which to kiss and make up, or just find novel solutions to nagging problems. These include the 2nd and 17th.

Retrogrades

Mercury and Neptune are both due to retrograde in this month – Neptune, on the 7th, and Mercury on the 27th making it a good time to review holiday or travel plans, rework family writing projects, or revision creative initiatives, especially those involving photography or interior design. Be careful of misunderstandings and deception now too, and avoid signing up to any new deals until at least the 21st of July, where possible.

Ingresses

Another event to watch out for is the ingress of lucky, optimistic Jupiter into Cancer on the 26th – the sign where it is exalted – where it will remain for just over a year. Use this auspicious time to start a family, build an extension to your house, start a cookery business or buy a boat or property near the sea. Time spent with family should be particularly special and fun now.

The lesser benefic, Venus will also ingress into two signs this month; first into Cancer on the 3rd, followed by a second ingress into Leo on the 27th. Use the first ingress to beatify your home and enjoy pleasurable get-togethers or a holiday with family. Venus’ presence in Leo is likely to amp up the glamour and make you feel you want some attention from the opposite sex. Visits to the theatre and past times involving luxury goods or services are also likely now.

March 2013 Astro-Insights

Your Monthly Guide to the Astrological Weather for March 2013…

Review of Last Month

Given how long this section has become, I have made the decision to dedicate a whole new blog to it.  That way, it doesn’t detract too much from the rest of the Astro-Insights column, and allows me to really get my teeth into a particular mundane astrological topic.

So from March, if you’d like to read my new Astro-Insights Blog, featuring an Astrological Review of the previous month, as well as occasional articles on interesting current affairs-related topics that call for in-depth astrological analysis, please visit http://astroinsightsblog.wordpress.com.

NEW MOON IN PISCES – 11 March 2013

We begin the lunar month with a New Moon in Pisces on the 11th of March at around 19h51 GMT. As the last sign of the zodiac, Pisces signals that this is the last month of the lunar year, which this year, is slightly out of sync with the solar one.

Use this time to wrap up any hidden or outstanding mental health, creative, spiritual or confinement (i.e. prison, rehab or maternity) issues that may be hanging over from previous months, and make some resolutions about how you’d like to support a marine-related cause (such as Hugh’s Fish Fight), tackle an addiction or get involved in a charitable cause during the coming year. That way, come next month’s New Moon in Aries, signalling the beginning of the lunar year, you’re ready to make a fresh start.

Alternatively, if you’ve run yourself ragged and need some rest, why not take yourself off to a spa, remote cottage or spiritual retreat to recoup your energies in preparation for the next phase of your life?

FULL MOON IN LIBRA – 23 March 2013

The Moon will wax to Full in the sign of Libra on the 27th of March at 09h27 GMT. This is a good time to end a relationship, make a commitment, round off political negotiations or bring a legal matter to a close.

It is also worth bearing in mind that next month’s Full Moon is also a Lunar Eclipse, meaning that a six month-long soli-lunar cycle will soon come to a close.  Ideally, you might want to spend this month considering what you’d like to let go of when it comes to sex, your attitude to power, as well as research projects or criminal investigations, so that next month, you’re ready to shed that particular habit, urge or compulsion, or develop a healthier relationship with it.

Solar Phases

SUN INTO ARIES – 20 March 2013

This year, the Spring Equinox, marked by the Sun’s ingress into Aries, will take place on March the 20th at 11h02 GMT. Traditionally, the start of the Babylonian agricultural year, this event marks the beginning of the astrological year for those Western astrologers who use the tropical zodiac.

Think of it as a good time to begin anew when it comes to personal projects, aims and goals, as well as keep-fit regimes, military matters and of course, anything involving sharp instruments, such as surgery, or metals such as iron – for example, griddle pans, casserole pots or horse shoes. As the place where the Sun’s energy is exalted, Aries is a sign of boldness, action, focus and willpower, so whatever your plans, now is the time to take the initiative and make them happen.

Planetary Events & Energy Shifts throughout March 2013

During March, we have the return of a rather spectacular astrological pairing – a sextile between planetary giants, Saturn and Pluto, which perfects on the 8th.  This aspect, the result of Saturn’s current retrograde status, forces us to return to certain challenging issues and themes concerning boundaries, restrictions, power and authority, that we first began to explore around December the 27th 2012.  Since then, we have gradually been coming to terms with the personal implications of what these could mean for us, thanks to a series of aspects, formed over the course of the last three months, as each of the faster-moving planets have taken their turn to simultaneously contact Saturn and Pluto.

Here, I am thinking of:

  • December the 30th – when the Sun made a conjunction to Pluto and sextiled Saturn;

  • January the 6th – when Mercury followed in the Sun’s footsteps;

  • January the 17th – when Venus mirrored Mercury;

  • February the 12th – when Mercury trined Saturn and sextiled Pluto, forming a minor grand trine;

  • February the 15th & 16th – when Mars did so, but in reverse order.

All of these aspects, in turn, challenged us to restructure our consciousness, words, values and actions in order to transform our personal lives and social institutions to better reflect an inner truth, as well as help us to adapt to the changing world in which we all find ourselves.

Although for many, it may also have turned out to be a time of upheaval, re-evaluation and suffering; it has also enabled many of us to face up to our deepest  fears,  thereby freeing ourselves from long-held burdens, restrictive circumstances and psychological inhibitions; and ultimately, leading to a more honest relationship with ourselves and others.

Now, as Saturn and Pluto join forces, we can expect to see these themes return, though perhaps on a wider social scale.  I expect we’ll see politics, law enforcement and the banking industry further purged of corruption, misuse of power and greedy self-interest.  This may mean that certain hidden facts will need to come to light, leading to a few scandals (I have the 29th in particular in mind here), as well as the possibility of social unrest, especially on the 27th when Mars squares Pluto, but ultimately, any changes that are introduced now will be in the interests of the greater social good.

If you’re ready to make a big change that involves taking on additional responsibilities, want to come clean about something that’s been on your conscience, or restructure your life so that it more authentically represents who you are, what you want and what you have to contribute to humanity, then take a de breath and seize the day.  If the prospect scares you to death, then gird your loins and know that you’re not alone.  Take the advice of Madonna, who says that if something scares her, she knows it’s something she really needs to do.

Lunar Phases

NEW MOON IN AQUARIUS – 10 February 2013

This month, we can look forward to the beginning of fresh annual cycle relating to ideological movements, personal independence and autonomy within relationships, connections made through social networking and group affiliations or collaborations centered around social enterprise or technology, care of the New Moon in Aquarius at 07h20 GMT on the 10th of February.

FULL MOON IN VIRGO – 25 February 2013

On the 25th of February at 20h26 GMT, a Full Moon in practical, helpful and modest Virgo brings a year-long cycle related to diet, health, editing projects or hand-made items to a conclusion.  It is also an excellent time to put the finishing touches to activities that require a keen eye, sharp mind and attention to detail.

Solar Phases

SUN INTO PISCES – 18 February 2013

The Sun is due to enter sensitive and perceptive Pisces at 12h02 GMT on the 18th of February.  Not long afterwards, the Sun conjuncts the planetary ruler of Pisces, nebulous and subtle Neptune, on the 21st.  This blending of assertive yet co-operative energy promises to add refinement, mystery, glamour and allure to creative activities and personal projects.  Taking the lead in photography, film-related, spirituality and philanthropic activities is well-favoured between now and next month.

Planetary Events & Energy Shifts throughout February 2013

During February, we can expect an increase in emphasis on all things Neptunian, care of the ingress of several planets, including the Sun, Mercury, Mars and Venus, into Pisces.  This is likely to re-introduce topics related to the ocean and other large bodies of water, spirituality, healthcare, especially drugs and palliative care, as well as creative art forms like photography and film.  Other themes likely to make an appearance are romanticism, escapism, addiction, illusion and deception.  Given that the annual Film Oscar Awards ceremony is scheduled for 24 February, it seems likely that this year will be an especially memorable, glamorous affair.

 Key dates to diarise:

  •  2 February – Mars ingress into Pisces
  • 4 February – Mars conjunct Neptune in Pisces
  • 5 February – Mercury ingress into Pisces
  • 6 February – Mercury conjunct Neptune in Pisces
  • 8 February – Mercury conjunct Mars in Pisces
  • 9 February – Mercury in Pisces square Jupiter
  • 10 February – Mars in Pisces square Jupiter
  • 12 February – Mercury in Pisces trine Saturn sextile Pluto
  • 16 February – Mars in Pisces trine Saturn sextile Pluto
  • 18 February – Sun ingress into Pisces
  • 21 February – Sun conjunct Neptune in Pisces
  • 26 February – Venus ingress into Pisce & second round of Mercury conjunct Mars in Pisces
  • 28 February – Venus conjunct Neptune in Pisces

Days to watch out for are the 12th and 16th, which are likely to carry echoes from events that took place around January the 6th and 17th.  Given how much this astrological signature figured into the Algerian hostage crisis, it seems possible that we may experience related developments at around this time.

Although February the 14th doesn’t look especially eventful, you can look forward to a very romantic spell between the 26th and 28th, when an exalted Venus unites with Neptune to sprinkle a little tenderness, poetry and fairy dust on love matters.

Mercury will retrograde for the first time this year, between the 23rd of February and the 18th of March, which is likely to play havoc with communication and travel, leading to a lot of confusion, as well as possible identify fraud and deception, so take extra precautions, especially with online purchases.

Saturn, the planet of limitation and manifestation, is also due to undergo its annual retrograde cycle, starting on the 12th of February.  Given that Saturn is generally considered to have a negative or inhibiting effect on situations, many interpret its retrograde period as a time when obstacles and restrictions temporarily lift, and you can enjoy a bit of breathing space away from heavy personal burdens or social obligations.  The ‘steady planet’ as the Babylonians referred to Saturn, is currently touring the sign of Scorpio which governs power structures, underground  tunnels and pipes, plumbing, recycling and other regenerative activities, such as antique restorations, as well as energetic healing of all kinds.  You may wish to revisit any related issues that have been put on hold during this retrograde spell, which will last until the 8th of July 2013.

As you can see, then Piscean energy is going to pre-dominate throughout the month.  This can be a good or a bad thing, depending on what signs and planets are strong in your own natal charts – it’s more than likely going to be a good personal month if you’re a Pisces, Cancer or Scorpio but potentially a little challenging if you’re a Gemini or Sagittarian.  Relationships and one-to-one encounters will feature strongly for Virgo’s during February – just as well it’s Valentine’s month!  The other cardinal and fixed signs are less likely to be affected by all this activity, however.  If you want to work out what its ingress into Pisces might mean for you, then you should look at its transit through your birth chart and consider what houses and natal planets it contacts.

Review of Last Month

This section originally contained an article about the November-December 2012 eclipses and the announcement of the royal pregnancy. However,  it had slowly taken on a life of it’s own, so I have dedicated a whole new blog to it.  Blog article on Prince William and Kate’s baby news.

Going forward,  if you’d like to read my new Astro-Insights blog, featuring an astrological analysis of the previous month, as well as occasional articles on interesting current affairs-related topics that call for in-depth astrological analysis.

Lunar Phases

NEW MOON IN CAPRICORN- 10 January 2013

This month a New Moon in Capricorn on the 11th of January at 19h44 GMT, will introduce a more sober and serious tone for the following four weeks – probably no bad thing after the retail frenzy of Christmas present shopping and the Boxing Day sales, not to mention all that festive drinking and eating. Now is a good time to start thinking about going back to work, regaining control over the family budget and thinking about what goals we’d like to set for ourselves during 2013. With the Sun, Venus and Mercury all joining the Moon in ambitious, determined and hardworking Capricorn at this time, it seems a powerful moment to make some New Year’s resolutions and then map out a plan for achieving these.

As an aside, this New Moon will occur just two days after the Duchess of Cambridge is due to celebrate her 31st birthday, making it especially significant for her on a personal level. She is currently in the Full Moon phase of her progressed lunar cycle, with the progressed Moon having entered Virgo, the sign related to health and practical details, in August 2012 – no doubt coinciding with the time when she allegedly began to cut out certain habits and foods from her regimen in order to increase her chances of conceiving. Her progressed Moon is also due to enter the 6th house of health, pets, habits and schedules in April 2013, which suggests that her focus is very much likely to be that of diet, health and changes to her daily routines for much of the year – quite apt, given that she is pregnant and that she seems to be having a difficult time of it healthwise as a result of her condition. Some newspapers have also reported that she purposely got her dog, Lupo, early so that it would not be jealous of any new arrivals further down the line – no doubt the training and preparations for this, along with the decorating of the couple’s new apartments in Kensington Palace will help provide outlets for these lunar inclinations.

In general, the progressed Moon is an excellent way to ascertain where we are likely to feel compelled to put our energy or what aspect of our lives we wish to focus on next. Knowing where your Progressed Moon is, both in terms of house, sign and phase, can often help to illuminate the upcoming direction or path that our lives may take in the immediate future. The Moon also rules emotions, and very often we know deep-down on an emotional or intuitive level that change is coming. Following the movements of the progressed Moon can help us to tune more clearly into the pattern of our own life cycles and make the most of that tide in the affairs of men that the poets often spoke about. If you’d like to know more about where your progressed Moon is, why not consider ordering a six or twelve month transit astro- report? For more details, visit my Astro-Reports page.

FULL MOON IN LEO- 27 January 2013

On the 27th of January at 04h38 GMT, we can look forward to a Full Moon in Leo. As the sign that rules leadership, personal charisma and self-confidence, as well as creativity and the performing arts, this Full Moon is likely to bring a personal or political chapter relating to these topics to a culmination or to a close. One can speculate that we might see a change of guard within a royal family or indeed, a country’s government around now.

Solar Phases

SUN INTO AQUARIUS – 19 January 2013

The Sun will enter Aquarius on the 19th of January at 21h52 GMT, thus initiating a new month-long cycle during which we can expect group-oriented or humanitarian activities to take centre stage, along with political revolutions, technological developments or inventions and the emergence of new social networking trends.

One thing worth bearing in mind is that, traditionally, the Sun is not terribly happy in Aquarius, as this is the polar opposite sign to its natural domicile or rulership of Leo. It naturally makes sense if we consider the fact that at this time of the year, the Sun is weak and it is very dark and cold. It is therefore not an ideal time to try and be too egotistical but instead, focus on the greater good of society and contributing to the welfare of groups to which you belong.

Planetary Events & Energy Shifts throughout January 2013

This month we can look forward to the stationing of Great Benefic, Jupiter, on January the 30th after several months of retrograde motion. This should mean an increase in progress when it comes to religious, moral, inter-cultural and legal exchanges and negotiations. Business transactions involving the media should go well after this date, whilst PR gurus can rely on more positive news coverage of key events, especially those involving politics, spirituality or commerce. We may also finally see some strides being made towards resolving the issue of press and media regulation vs. freedom of speech post-Levenson – something that seems to have continually been put on the back burner by politicians during 2012 whilst Jupiter was retrograde.

Before that date, we can also look forward to three key dates during January during which you’ll have the opportunity to gain a wider perspective or reach more of an understanding in relation to certain beliefs or nagging moral conundrums. The first date is the 4th of January when Mars in Aquarius trines Jupiter. This should provide you with the willpower, energy and enthusiasm to make headway in moving forward or restarting projects related to sports, travel or politics, especially if your intention is to bring about greater equality, democracy, fairness or improved rights to the masses, since both Jupiter and Mars will trine the Moon, the planet of the people, just prior to this transit.

Later, on the 23rd, a Mercury-Jupiter trine in the same signs, offers involved those immersed in protracted discussions or technical or scientific collaborations to finally identify a way to overcome long standing objections or obstacles to a publication, product release or commercial agreement in a way that benefits all parties and without incurring any further ethical objections.

Finally, a Sun-Jupiter trine, again in air signs, on the 26th should help to untangle a leadership quandary and make parents or those in charge feel more generous and benevolent than usual, and thus more amenable to doing favours, rewarding staff for their hard work or introducing new gadgets, machinery or software that might make work that bit easier. Overall, this is a day to indulge yourself or purchase some luxury items, especially those you have been eyeing up for some time.

Happy New Year!
