SOLI-LUNAR PHASES
Over the course of a year, the solstices and equinoxes of the Sun mark out the changing seasons, which affect not only the beginning of different natural cycles, but our moods and choice of activities; whilst on a smaller scale, the Moon’s phases make up the time-span of a month. In fact, the etymology of the word month, comes from the Indo-European word, ‘me(n)ses’, meaning “moon.” 1
During this period, the Moon also moves through the zodiac, with every progressive full or new moon cycle occurring in the sign more or less following that of the previous month.
Lunar Phases
NEW MOON IN LEO – 6 August 2013
The lunar month will begin on the 6th of August at 22h51 BST with a Sun-Moon conjunction in Leo. The 28 days or so that follow are therefore likely to revolve around self-expression, how to build up personal confidence, selling yourself, take on more responsibility and no doubt, more titbits about the royal new-born. Use this time to polish your PR or leadership skills and learn how to exude confidence and poise, even when you are secretly cracking up inside. A visit to the theatre may be just the ticket this month.
FULL MOON IN AQUARIUS – 21 August 2013
For the second month running, we will experience a Full Moon in Aquarius on the 21st of August at 02h45 BST. It is therefore likely that some of the themes left over from July will continue to get air time. These include equal rights and civil liberties, online etiquette and internet/social networking regulation as well as popular political movements and technology projects. Having the courage to speak the truth and be yourself, no matter how much you think you stick out or don’t conform, is well-favoured now.
Solar Phases
SUN INTO VIRGO – 23 August 2013
During August, the Sun will ingress into Virgo, the sign of the harvest and the sacred feminine, at around 00h02 BST on the 23rd of August. On the same day, Mercury will also enter Virgo – the sign of its exaltation which should result in month-long period during which writing, editing, critiquing, gardening, carving and any arts or crafts involving the hands should go well.

Planetary Ingresses
This month, Mercury, planet of communication, travel and commerce, will be much more active than it has been in a while. As well as changing signs twice this month, entering Leo on the 8th; and Virgo, around the 23rd, Mercury will also make contact with inventive and original Uranus as well as two of the planets involved in last month’s major grand trine – lucky Jupiter and make-it-happen Saturn. Although there could be a lot of niggles and loose ends to sort out and through, especially on the 11th and 25th, you could make some major breakthroughs on the 15th that not only solve a long-standing technical, scientific or mechanical problem but also allow you to branch out in a brand new and exciting direction. Travel, especially by sea or to a coastal destination, is also a distinct possibility towards the end of the month, especially the 31st. If you have been nurturing plans for a new venture but not seen how they could possibly come to fruition, perhaps because of a lack of financial backing or, you could get the nod from the powers that be, or endorsement from a business or political heavyweight around the 27th.
Venus also ingresses into her own sign on the 16th of this month, after which love, equality for the sexes, political harmony and artistic or architectural symmetry are all more likely to happen. Passionate encounters and energetic exchanges are possible on the 2nd, so singles be prepared! However, relationships of all kinds will still need some attention, especially on the 24th, 26th and 27th. With all the Leo and Uranian energy around this month, it may be difficult to balance the need for freedom and independence with your obligations to others now.
