Your Monthly Guide to the Astrological Weather for January 2013…
Review of Last Month
This section originally contained an article about the November-December 2012 eclipses and the announcement of the royal pregnancy. However, it had slowly taken on a life of it’s own, so I have dedicated a whole new blog to it. Blog article on Prince William and Kate’s baby news.
Going forward, if you’d like to read my new Astro-Insights blog, featuring an astrological analysis of the previous month, as well as occasional articles on interesting current affairs-related topics that call for in-depth astrological analysis.

Over the course of a year, the solstices and equinoxes of the Sun mark out the changing seasons, which affect not only the beginning of different natural cycles, but our moods and choice of activities; whilst on a smaller scale, the Moon’s phases make up the time-span of a month. In fact, the etymology of the word month, comes from the Indo-European word, ‘me(n)ses’, meaning “moon.” 1
During this period, the Moon also moves through the zodiac, with every progressive full or new moon cycle occurring in the sign more or less following that of the previous month.
NEW MOON IN CAPRICORN- 10 January 2013
This month a New Moon in Capricorn on the 11th of January at 19h44 GMT, will introduce a more sober and serious tone for the following four weeks – probably no bad thing after the retail frenzy of Christmas present shopping and the Boxing Day sales, not to mention all that festive drinking and eating. Now is a good time to start thinking about going back to work, regaining control over the family budget and thinking about what goals we’d like to set for ourselves during 2013. With the Sun, Venus and Mercury all joining the Moon in ambitious, determined and hardworking Capricorn at this time, it seems a powerful moment to make some New Year’s resolutions and then map out a plan for achieving these.
As an aside, this New Moon will occur just two days after the Duchess of Cambridge is due to celebrate her 31st birthday, making it especially significant for her on a personal level. She is currently in the Full Moon phase of her progressed lunar cycle, with the progressed Moon having entered Virgo, the sign related to health and practical details, in August 2012 – no doubt coinciding with the time when she allegedly began to cut out certain habits and foods from her regimen in order to increase her chances of conceiving. Her progressed Moon is also due to enter the 6th house of health, pets, habits and schedules in April 2013, which suggests that her focus is very much likely to be that of diet, health and changes to her daily routines for much of the year – quite apt, given that she is pregnant and that she seems to be having a difficult time of it healthwise as a result of her condition. Some newspapers have also reported that she purposely got her dog, Lupo, early so that it would not be jealous of any new arrivals further down the line – no doubt the training and preparations for this, along with the decorating of the couple’s new apartments in Kensington Palace will help provide outlets for these lunar inclinations.
In general, the progressed Moon is an excellent way to ascertain where we are likely to feel compelled to put our energy or what aspect of our lives we wish to focus on next. Knowing where your Progressed Moon is, both in terms of house, sign and phase, can often help to illuminate the upcoming direction or path that our lives may take in the immediate future. The Moon also rules emotions, and very often we know deep-down on an emotional or intuitive level that change is coming. Following the movements of the progressed Moon can help us to tune more clearly into the pattern of our own life cycles and make the most of that tide in the affairs of men that the poets often spoke about. If you’d like to know more about where your progressed Moon is, why not consider ordering a six or twelve month transit astro- report? For more details, visit my Astro-Reports page.
FULL MOON IN LEO- 27 January 2013
On the 27th of January at 04h38 GMT, we can look forward to a Full Moon in Leo. As the sign that rules leadership, personal charisma and self-confidence, as well as creativity and the performing arts, this Full Moon is likely to bring a personal or political chapter relating to these topics to a culmination or to a close. One can speculate that we might see a change of guard within a royal family or indeed, a country’s government around now.
SUN INTO AQUARIUS – 19 January 2013
The Sun will enter Aquarius on the 19th of January at 21h52 GMT, thus initiating a new month-long cycle during which we can expect group-oriented or humanitarian activities to take centre stage, along with political revolutions, technological developments or inventions and the emergence of new social networking trends.
One thing worth bearing in mind is that, traditionally, the Sun is not terribly happy in Aquarius, as this is the polar opposite sign to its natural domicile or rulership of Leo. It naturally makes sense if we consider the fact that at this time of the year, the Sun is weak and it is very dark and cold. It is therefore not an ideal time to try and be too egotistical but instead, focus on the greater good of society and contributing to the welfare of groups to which you belong.
Planetary Events & Energy Shifts throughout January 2013
This month we can look forward to the stationing of Great Benefic, Jupiter, on January the 30th after several months of retrograde motion. This should mean an increase in progress when it comes to religious, moral, inter-cultural and legal exchanges and negotiations. Business transactions involving the media should go well after this date, whilst PR gurus can rely on more positive news coverage of key events, especially those involving politics, spirituality or commerce. We may also finally see some strides being made towards resolving the issue of press and media regulation vs. freedom of speech post-Levenson – something that seems to have continually been put on the back burner by politicians during 2012 whilst Jupiter was retrograde.
Before that date, we can also look forward to three key dates during January during which you’ll have the opportunity to gain a wider perspective or reach more of an understanding in relation to certain beliefs or nagging moral conundrums. The first date is the 4th of January when Mars in Aquarius trines Jupiter. This should provide you with the willpower, energy and enthusiasm to make headway in moving forward or restarting projects related to sports, travel or politics, especially if your intention is to bring about greater equality, democracy, fairness or improved rights to the masses, since both Jupiter and Mars will trine the Moon, the planet of the people, just prior to this transit.
Later, on the 23rd, a Mercury-Jupiter trine in the same signs, offers involved those immersed in protracted discussions or technical or scientific collaborations to finally identify a way to overcome long standing objections or obstacles to a publication, product release or commercial agreement in a way that benefits all parties and without incurring any further ethical objections.
Finally, a Sun-Jupiter trine, again in air signs, on the 26th should help to untangle a leadership quandary and make parents or those in charge feel more generous and benevolent than usual, and thus more amenable to doing favours, rewarding staff for their hard work or introducing new gadgets, machinery or software that might make work that bit easier. Overall, this is a day to indulge yourself or purchase some luxury items, especially those you have been eyeing up for some time.
Happy New Year!
