Soul mate connections, sacred union and the ties that bind us together, are all likely to be the overriding themes at the July 2021 Cancer New Moon, which will also activate the upcoming conjunction between love & creativity planets, Venus & Mars on July 13.
There’s a strong emphasis on the rituals of courtship and the symbolic meaning of chivalry, as well as the need to respect the natural in-built timing of every dynamic, be it a relationship, a work project or an emotional cycle such as the grieving process.
I was strongly reminded of one of my favourite literature classics, Far from the Madding Crowd , in which Thomas Hardy illustrates, in quite a modern (yet ancient) way, the pitfalls of what can happen in love when we ignore red flags, bypass certain key ingredients (like trust or respect, for example) or try to rush things. In many ways, both his book – and this lunar phase – serve to remind us that good things take time to grow and develop, but are worth the patience and effort.
“He had been held to her by a beautiful thread which it pained him to spoil by breaking, rather than by a chain he could not break.”Far from the Madding Crowd, Thomas Hardy
However, as both the Sabian Symbol and Lunar Face remind us, this is not just about second chances or star-crossed lovers coming together – it is also about the rites of passage and shared values and rituals that bind families and unite communities, often in celebration.
Tying all of this together is the alchemical metaphor of the sacred marriage between Sun and Moon – the metaphor used in many initiation rituals and the inner process of spiritual transformation epitomised in the fool’s journey from naïve youth to enlightened master so beautifully outlined in the tarot trumps.
