2021 CAPRICORN SUPERMOON
24 June 2021, 19h40 BST
Finding your natural groove and rhythm, despite outside interference or external challenges, is what June’s Supermoon in Capricorn is all about. With it’s emphasis on the earth and water elements, this Full Moon carries strong themes around honour, right alignment, inner confidence and emotional balance. Stable connections and emotions is a good way of summing up this combination of elements, which are very eloquently embodied in the image of a wooden canoe on water in this moon’s Sabian symbol.
Once again, there is a message around being patient and remaining constant, despite any curveballs Fate may throw our way to test us. Staying centered and firm in our truth, and not being easily swayed by popular opinion, hecklers or haters will really help to keep you on track now. There’s much here about finding your own rhythm and groove – coming home to yourself and unapologetically treading a different path – but doing so in a calm and quietly confident way that could make others sit up and notice. Indeed, you stand to really command respect from others now by walking your talk – aligning your actions with your ideals, keeping your word and leading by example between now and mid-July.
Loyalty, consistency and people or situations who are ‘constants’ in our lives is another topical theme now. Indeed, there’s also a strong emphasis on forging (or reaffirming) strong bonds (especially amongst siblings or close family members) or ties of loyalty, and on making (or breaking) vows or promises, thanks to a contact between the luminaries and the Part of Brethren (siblings or brothers). It’s likely that we may be discovering who we can really rely on during difficult times, and perhaps even experiencing a sense of gratitude for the support, love and care shown to us by our nearest and dearest.
In this sense, the stabilising roots and trunks of trees offer us a very useful metaphor to contemplate during this two week period. Not only do they anchor and stabilise, despite high winds or heavy storms, but they also draw up nutrients dissolved in water from the ground and offer shelter to a host of smaller creatures who choose to make it their home.
This eclipse occurs at 15th degree of Capricorn. The Sabian Symbol for this degree is:
For me, this symbol is all about family or small groups of people pulling together or choosing to navigate potentially choppy waters as a team. This chimes well with the messages of the fixed stars and Arabic parts highlighted by this full moon, namely the need to remain centered, calm and firm (the I Ching calls it ‘centered and correct’) in the face of challenges, especially the kind of storms that tend to blow up water i.e. our emotions and leave us feeling ‘all at sea’, to continue the metaphor. There is also an emphasis on keeping promises and vows to others i.e. being honourable and reliable – qualities that are highly underrated but really come into their own during troubled times. The Moon’s position close to the Part of Siblings also points to close ties and the need to be able to rely on those to whom we are bound, either by blood or water – our ‘tribe’. It is possible that circumstances now may help you to recognize who your people are more clearly those loyal few who are willing to go on a journey with you, and are not just there for the good times.
The likelihood of external chaos that was so prevalent at the June 2021 eclipses, is likely to continue, given the fixed star contacts with the nodal axis. However, if we consider Antares’ position on the south node, we do seem to be reaching some form of collective tipping point or release. It’s possible that we may begin to see the higher purpose of all the chaos and disruption many of us have been facing these last few years. Indeed, one of the great gifts of the Egyptians was to embrace all aspects of life, and show that it has a purpose. Their god of chaos and destruction, Set, who is also the brother of fertility god, Osiris, is seen as a necessary part of the cycle of life, beinging about much-needed catharsis and sweeping away the debris of the old in order to make way for the new.
There’s also an echo here of messages that come through in the hexagrams about being consistent and following-through with promises. When paired with the north node, the fixed star, Aldebaran, which marks the eye of Taurus, this star is all about embodying an ideal, honouring contracts and embodying one’s beliefs and principles that chimes well with both the Sabian symbol and the arabic parts, which are all about loyalty and the bonds and responsibilities that keep families and tribes together, especially during difficult times.
At this full moon, we are being asked to see these, both as a way of honouring others, but also as a way of commanding self-respect.
LUNAR FACE: first DEMI-DECAN OF capricorn
CAPRICORN 1-5: RESPECT
Respect is not seen here as a gentle courtesy that each affords all others equally in a gentle social scenario, it is understood on a deeper level. It is a power, and an aspect of the powerful. The weak and mild will teach that if we want it, and if we want to remain in control of our own situations, then we need to win respect of others; the strong simply demand it. It is wise to protect and defend ourselves, and the least violent use of power is to command respect.James Burgess, 360 Degrees of Wisdom
In 360 degrees of wisdom, James Burgess summarises the nature of this particular demi-decan as follows:
- Authority requires and demands respect – most effectively through an uncompromising inner integrity
- Commemoration creates our sense of belonging and is a binding force of community
- Tireless appetite for experience and knowledge is evidence of soul-consciousness
- Clear-mindedness and efficiency are leadership qualities, promoting good order and effectiveness
- The power to get things done sometimes requires aggressive leadership and formidable focus
Moon & Sun sextile/trine Jupiter
Counting our blessings is one of the big take-aways of this particular moon phase, thanks to heart-expanding and optimistic set of aspects between the luminaries and benevolent Jupiter in compassionate Pisces.
Rather than experiencing than lucky breaks in the outer world, Jupiter retrograde condition in Pisces is more likely to manifest as an internal expansion – a growing sense of space, lightness and optimism that helps you to take things in your stride and not take things so seriously (always a possibility when the moon is in serious Capricorn).
With the Moon in Capricorn sextiling Jupiter, you may also experience this as a sense of gratitude and blossoming inner confidence that you know who you are and can handle whatever life throws at you, and that ultimately, the universe has your back.
A flowing water trine between Jupiter and the Sun in caring Cancer points to heart centre openings and a sense of feeling cared-for and nurtured by the Great Mother. This is also about unconditional love for self that wells up in the heart centre, before spilling out into your surroundings and touching everyone (or everything) you come into contact with. Think of the fountain in the Ace of Cups tarot card, and you’ll know what I am talking about.
