Welcome to 2025 Eclipse Season. This year, things get off to a dramatic start with a Total Lunar Eclipse in Virgo, which will take place on 14 March 2025 around 09:12 UK time.
The final soli-lunar occultation of the 2024-5 astrological year, the March 2025 Virgo lunar eclipse completes the Sept-Oct 2024 soli-lunar cycle, and clears the way for the new astrological year, heralded by the Sun’s ingress into Aries on March the 20th, when a brand new cycle of time begins, on several levels.
Not only is the March Equinox the astrological equivalent of New Year’s Day in the Gregorian calendar, but it is also the gateway to two other major cosmological resets:
- A New Moon solar eclipse in Aries on 29 March 2025, which begins a fresh soli-lunar cycle that takes us through to autumn 2025.
- The ingress of Neptune into Aries on 30 March 2025, after a stay of approx. 14 years in its domicile of Pisces – it’s first major sign change since 2011.
So, some fairly major shifts ahead this spring.
In addition, the Virgo Full Moon will be making some positive earth trines/sextiles to the planets of transformation and revolution, Uranus and Pluto, extending the vibe shift that’s been ongoing since last year’s minor grand trine involving Neptune, Uranus and Pluto.
All of which points to one key message: change is in the air, a theme that will continue throughout most of 2025, as many of the outer planets change signs for the first time in many years, including Saturn (May), Jupiter (June) and Uranus (July). Pretty seismic stuff!
These planetary machinations all form part of a grander cosmological shift as the major planets move out of nocturnal/receptive elements and signs and into more diurnal/active energy. As a result, the overall atmosphere for 2025 will feel dramatically different to previous years – something that will become gradually more noticeable from the March Equinox onwards.
How gracefully we deal with these shifts, both personally and within the global context, whilst remaining calm and staying true to our values, is what this particular lunar eclipse is all about.
SEEING THROUGH THE FOG

The March 2025 Blood Moon takes place in modest, discerning Virgo from where it will act as a grounding counterpoint to the somewhat confusing, woo woo and frankly surreal Pisces energy that’s been around since autumn 2024 and more recently, Pisces season 2025. In stark contrast to September 2024, the March 2025 Lunar Eclipse in Virgo is asking us to quit dreaming, sharpen our perception and engage our criticial thinking abilities; to focus on facts, details and practicalities; and to choose the healthy and sensible options, rather than over-indulge or get carried away with escapist fantasies.
Taking a more pragmatic, diligent approach to life will also better equip us to handle the tectonic shifts happening on the global landscape rather than dreaming of utopian neverlands, procrastinating or hoping your problems will miraculously disappear if you ignore them for long enough.
Indeed, for some, the March 2025 lunar eclipse could bring about a reality check of sorts – Pluto and Uranus will be teaming up with the Virgo Moon to produce wake-up calls of all kinds, and forcing us to attend to all the boring tasks like admin or repair jobs and health appointments that we may have been putting off for some time. See this as an opportunity to brush away the cobwebs and do a personal spring clean in preparation for the return of our confidence and mojo as we begin a brand new astrological year at the equinox.
FOCUS ON EMOTIONS

As was the also case in September 2024, both the luminaries will be positioned within the emotional centre of the Human Design bodygraph, placing the focus once again on our interior landscapes: the psychological processes and coping mechanisms we’ve developed for adapting to external change – something we can probably all identify with post-COVID.
With the Virgo Moon also conjunct the south node, there’s also an emphasis on physical detoxing, and letting go of counter-productive dietary/everyday habits in favour of self-improvement and better health. As the planetary ruler of the physical body and subconscious patterns, the Moon’s placement in the region of the Human Design bodygraph that rules emotions is also a call to let go of any fear, doubt or uncertainty that may be clouding our vision, and replace anxiety and/or any self-defeating sub-conscious patterns with proven ways to cultivate inner peace and a sense of well-being, despite any outer turbulence.
BALANCING OF OPPOSITES

Both the luminaries will be located in very similar places on the zodiac wheel (and therefore, the same human design gates) as they were back in Sept 2024 – except that now, their positions will be inverted:
- The Moon will be in clear-eyed Virgo near the south node, while
- The Sun will now be in dreamy Pisces, hovering near to both Saturn and the north node.
You could see the March Virgo lunar eclipse as a mirror image of the September 2024 Pisces. In essence, we’re dealing with similar themes to last year – just from the reverse perspective. So, what was conscious (Sun) now becomes sub-conscious (Moon); what was externalised (Sun) now becomes internalised (Moon); and heart and head swap places.
In other words, we’re rebalancing the energies of the Pisces-Virgo axis – coming full circle – sweeping out any lingering traces of the old astrological year, and making space for the start of a new cosmic cycle as we head towards Aries season and the New Moon solar eclipse on March 29.
CRISES THAT BRING CLARITY

From a human design perspective, the Sun will be located in the same gate where the Moon was in September 2024: Hexagram 6, the gate of conflict; while the Moon will now be where the Sun was – in Hexagram 36, the gate of crisis.
Taken together, the ‘activation’ of these gates suggest that around the March 2025 Virgo Lunar Eclipse, an external conflict, perhaps with a former boss or authority figure (Sun), could precipitate some form of internal crisis – one that forces a wake-up call or decision, and possibly a shift in attitude or sentiment. The payoff: an opportunity to refine and improve the way we emotionally self-regulate and resolve inter-personal differences.
With Venus in feisty Aries, it is also possible that you may find yourself at odds with a significant other, possibly a female or ex-lover, during this three-month period. Both Mercury and Venus will be retrograde, and travelling fairly close together, pointing to triggers, issues or sources of disagreement with their roots in the past. These could involve money, different communication styles or a clash of values – look to your natal chart for clues as to what types of situations or people these planets could represent.
On the Aries-Libra relationship spectrum, Aries tends to be more focused on self-actualisation and autonomy within the context of partnerships. So, if you’re usually the co-dependent type or a people pleaser who always compromises, then it might be time for you to embrace the more independent, confident energy of Aries season and be a bit more direct and assertive (but also constructive) about getting your needs met.
Heartfelt conversations between 23-26 March could help to shed light on individual perspectives and move the situation forward, provided people are willing to listen and not criticise, carp or rush to judgement prematurely.
In general, the message of this eclipse is to let go of what’s messy and confusing, or leads to self-doubt and disassociation, ultimately preventing progress. Instead, actively choose to focus on productive activities or healthier behaviour that leads to better relationships, emotional clarity and a sense of accomplishment or competence.
SEEKING WISE COUNSEL

Be aware though: Any changes begun during the March 2025 Virgo eclipse are not likely to happen overnight – lunar eclipses usually have a three-month orb of influence. During that period, we could find ourselves embarking on what Carl Jung called a night-sea journey, navigating the undulating highs and lows of our ‘emotion oceans’, whilst gradually working to refine and improve our coping methods and strategies for navigating life’s up’s and downs, especially during times of upheaval.
Helping to steady the ship of our conscious minds will be Saturn in Gate 22, which makes a conjunction to the Sun and North Node in Pisces at the time of the eclipse. A calming and stabilising influence, Saturn could make its presence felt in the form of a truthworthy and wise advisor or sage-like archetype similar to Philemon or the Old Man of the Sea who synchronistically appears in our life, perhaps through a dream, to offer us guidance on how to deal with any potential conflicts or difficulties we may be facing.
From a human design perspective, this influence is about blending emotional openness with Saturn’s signature self-discipline and sense of responsibility in order to respond maturely to any emotional crises we may experience between now and May 2025 with a mixture of charm and grace.
SETTING & ACCEPTING LIMITS

However, Saturn may also be pointing to where we need to introduce internal stabilising measures for optimal emotional self-regulation, as well as healthier inter-personal limits and/or boundaries. Combined with the Moon’s position in self-sufficient Virgo close to the south node, it might also be fair to say that the March Virgo lunar eclipse is about surrendering and letting go – not worrying endlessly about what we can’t control, for instance.
Standing in direct opposition to a stellium of planets in Pisces, the eclipsed Moon also has the potential to help us become more aware of where we may be too self-critical, perfectionist or workaholic; developed OCD-like compulsions and/or patterns involving drug abuse, denial or self-deception. Or we could have aha moments about situations where we tend to harbour unrealistic expectations or self-sabotage through fear, poor attention to detail, a lack of self-confidence or limiting beliefs.
Becoming more realistic and phlegmatic about what we can vs what we cannot control; and pragmatically choosing to accept limits and/or come to terms with having to work with less, can also help us deal with any stress or overwhelm, and bring about increased inner resilience. On a geopolitical level, this could mean opting to become less dependent on fluctuating resources/supply chains or goodwill/favours from difficult or unreliable leaders and decision-makers (Sun), for example.
RELINQUISHING OUTDATED BELIEFS
With a strong emphasis on mourning and religion in the Sabian symbols, the March 2025 Virgo Lunar Eclipse may also catalyse opportunities to free yourself from an outdated belief system or blind faith in a system or authority figure that may have played a seminal role in forming your worldview up until this point. It could also point to a custom or orthodox tradition you grew up with and never questioned – until now. Again, much will depend on the placements of the luminaries and Saturn in your birth chart as to how these are likely to show up for you.
You may also want to cast your mind back to September to identify any recurring themes that crop up now. Look to the cheat sheet (below) for clues as to which TWO life areas these are likely to show up in for you – they will be different for everybody, based on personal astrology placements.
In general, the Virgo lunar eclipse is asking us all to harness our comon sense, critical thinking and sense of discernment in order to get the moral clarity and inner congruence we need to stay healthy, be productive; and keep calm and carry on during what could feel like a puzzling, tumultuous and destabilising time. Developing better judgement now could make all the difference between feeling disappointed, worried or let down; and taking things in your stride.
SMALL BUT STEADY STEPS FORWARD

Given all the sign changes and major transits ahead, it’s probably also a good idea to see this process as a marathon and not a sprint. Remember, we’re talking about a three-month period, so think tortoise, not hare energy and you’ll be on the right track.
Also, don’t expect everything to work out first time around or be perfect. Both Virgo and Pisces also tend toward idealism, which can prevent us from ever making a decision or getting anything done. If at first you don’t succeed, simply reflect, repeat and then refine the process until you get to where you want to be. Procrastination beyond the parameters of the emotional wave (one lunar month), is not advisable – the pace and urgency of Aries season just won’t allow it!
Whatever techniques, routines or Saturn-like systems or advisers help to stabilise and ground you now will go a long way towards offsetting any overwhelm that might come from having to face difficult or anxiety-provoking events or changes that seem unfixable or are beyond your control. Think of the Serenity Prayer:
“Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
The goal is to be realistic and pragmatic, rather than push yourself too hard, have vague plans or ill thought-through goals. So be gentle but firm with yourself and don’t allow messy situations, disorganised or deluded people, or a defeatist attitude stop you from achieving your goals.
