March 2013 Astro-Insights

Your Monthly Guide to the Astrological Weather for March 2013…

Review of Last Month

Given how long this section has become, I have made the decision to dedicate a whole new blog to it.  That way, it doesn’t detract too much from the rest of the Astro-Insights column, and allows me to really get my teeth into a particular mundane astrological topic.

So from March, if you’d like to read my new Astro-Insights Blog, featuring an Astrological Review of the previous month, as well as occasional articles on interesting current affairs-related topics that call for in-depth astrological analysis, please visit http://astroinsightsblog.wordpress.com.

Those who access the web via tablet or smart phone will be pleased to know that the site is optimised for mobile internet browsing – you’ll find the RSS feed and archive listings at the bottom of the page.

SOLI-LUNAR PHASES

Over the course of a year, the solstices and equinoxes of the Sun mark out the changing seasons, which affect not only the beginning of different natural cycles, but our moods and choice of activities; whilst on a smaller scale, the Moon’s phases make up the time-span of a month. In fact, the etymology of the word month, comes from the Indo-European word, ‘me(n)ses’, meaning “moon.” 1

During this period, the Moon also moves through the zodiac, with every progressive full or new moon cycle occurring in the sign more or less following that of the previous month.

Lunar Phases

NEW MOON IN PISCES – 11 March 2013

We begin the lunar month with a New Moon in Pisces on the 11th of March at around 19h51 GMT. As the last sign of the zodiac, Pisces signals that this is the last month of the lunar year, which this year, is slightly out of sync with the solar one.

Use this time to wrap up any hidden or outstanding mental health, creative, spiritual or confinement (i.e. prison, rehab or maternity) issues that may be hanging over from previous months, and make some resolutions about how you’d like to support a marine-related cause (such as Hugh’s Fish Fight), tackle an addiction or get involved in a charitable cause during the coming year. That way, come next month’s New Moon in Aries, signalling the beginning of the lunar year, you’re ready to make a fresh start.

Alternatively, if you’ve run yourself ragged and need some rest, why not take yourself off to a spa, remote cottage or spiritual retreat to recoup your energies in preparation for the next phase of your life?

FULL MOON IN LIBRA – 23 March 2013

The Moon will wax to Full in the sign of Libra on the 27th of March at 09h27 GMT. This is a good time to end a relationship, make a commitment, round off political negotiations or bring a legal matter to a close.

It is also worth bearing in mind that next month’s Full Moon is also a Lunar Eclipse, meaning that a six month-long soli-lunar cycle will soon come to a close.  Ideally, you might want to spend this month considering what you’d like to let go of when it comes to sex, your attitude to power, as well as research projects or criminal investigations, so that next month, you’re ready to shed that particular habit, urge or compulsion, or develop a healthier relationship with it.

Solar Phases

SUN INTO ARIES – 20 March 2013

This year, the Spring Equinox, marked by the Sun’s ingress into Aries, will take place on March the 20th at 11h02 GMT. Traditionally, the start of the Babylonian agricultural year, this event marks the beginning of the astrological year for those Western astrologers who use the tropical zodiac.

Think of it as a good time to begin anew when it comes to personal projects, aims and goals, as well as keep-fit regimes, military matters and of course, anything involving sharp instruments, such as surgery, or metals such as iron – for example, griddle pans, casserole pots or horse shoes. As the place where the Sun’s energy is exalted, Aries is a sign of boldness, action, focus and willpower, so whatever your plans, now is the time to take the initiative and make them happen.

Planetary Events & Energy Shifts throughout March 2013

During March, we have the return of a rather spectacular astrological pairing – a sextile between planetary giants, Saturn and Pluto, which perfects on the 8th.  This aspect, the result of Saturn’s current retrograde status, forces us to return to certain challenging issues and themes concerning boundaries, restrictions, power and authority, that we first began to explore around December the 27th 2012.  Since then, we have gradually been coming to terms with the personal implications of what these could mean for us, thanks to a series of aspects, formed over the course of the last three months, as each of the faster-moving planets have taken their turn to simultaneously contact Saturn and Pluto.

Here, I am thinking of:

  • December the 30th – when the Sun made a conjunction to Pluto and sextiled Saturn;

  • January the 6th – when Mercury followed in the Sun’s footsteps;

  • January the 17th – when Venus mirrored Mercury;

  • February the 12th – when Mercury trined Saturn and sextiled Pluto, forming a minor grand trine;

  • February the 15th & 16th – when Mars did so, but in reverse order.

All of these aspects, in turn, challenged us to restructure our consciousness, words, values and actions in order to transform our personal lives and social institutions to better reflect an inner truth, as well as help us to adapt to the changing world in which we all find ourselves.

Although for many, it may also have turned out to be a time of upheaval, re-evaluation and suffering; it has also enabled many of us to face up to our deepest  fears,  thereby freeing ourselves from long-held burdens, restrictive circumstances and psychological inhibitions; and ultimately, leading to a more honest relationship with ourselves and others.

Now, as Saturn and Pluto join forces, we can expect to see these themes return, though perhaps on a wider social scale.  I expect we’ll see politics, law enforcement and the banking industry further purged of corruption, misuse of power and greedy self-interest.  This may mean that certain hidden facts will need to come to light, leading to a few scandals (I have the 29th in particular in mind here), as well as the possibility of social unrest, especially on the 27th when Mars squares Pluto, but ultimately, any changes that are introduced now will be in the interests of the greater social good.

If you’re ready to make a big change that involves taking on additional responsibilities, want to come clean about something that’s been on your conscience, or restructure your life so that it more authentically represents who you are, what you want and what you have to contribute to humanity, then take a de breath and seize the day.  If the prospect scares you to death, then gird your loins and know that you’re not alone.  Take the advice of Madonna, who says that if something scares her, she knows it’s something she really needs to do.
