Given how long this section has become, I have made the decision to dedicate a whole new blog to it. That way, it doesn’t detract too much from the rest of the Astro-Insights column, and allows me to really get my teeth into a particular mundane astrological topic.

SOLI-LUNAR PHASES

Over the course of a year, the solstices and equinoxes of the Sun mark out the changing seasons, which affect not only the beginning of different natural cycles, but our moods and choice of activities; whilst on a smaller scale, the Moon’s phases make up the time-span of a month. In fact, the etymology of the word month, comes from the Indo-European word, ‘me(n)ses’, meaning “moon.” ¹

During this period, the Moon also moves through the zodiac, with every progressive full or new moon cycle occurring in the sign more or less following that of the previous month.

NEW MOON IN GEMINI – 8 June 2013

On the 8th of June at 16h56 BST, the New Moon in Gemini will usher in a fresh four week lunar cycle, especially in education, communication, media, self-expression, travel, politics and social activities. This is a good time to make a speech, start a new course or writing project, or make contact with a journalist or MP to further a cause.

FULL MOON IN CAPRICORN – 23 June 2013

On the 23rd at 12h32 BST, a Full Moon in Capricorn concludes a month-long cycle concerning your attitudes towards social conformity, rules, social acceptance, power and authority. You could receive recognition from the establishment or break from a long-held family tradition now.

SUN INTO CANCER – 21 June 2013

This year, the summer solstice, marked by the Sun’s ingress into family-orientated and home-loving Cancer, takes place on the 21st of June at 06h04 BST. This marks the start of a brand new four-week period during which you may be drawn to activities such as home decorating, cooking, baking, shopping for homewares, spending time nesting with loved ones, or going on a seaside or sailing holiday.This month, the Sun ingresses into Leo, the royal sign, at 16h56 BST on the 22nd of July – very close to the expected birth date of the first child of Prince William and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge. Although this could be a harbinger of the arrival of a royal heir for the Cambridge’s, for us mere mortals, it is more likely to be a time during which we attempt to improve our self-confidence, or alternatively, indulge in a little luxury or enjoy some time off having fun in the sun.

Planetary Events & Energy Shifts throughout June 2013

During March, we can look forward to a number of positive Neptune contacts, which should give us an opportunity to explore our deeper spiritual connections to small groups with whom we feel connected, including our immediate family. DNA analysis that allows us to explore our genetic heritage, an examination of the karmic dimension of family groups or clans, genealogy and pilgrimages to places associated with our ancestors are also possible ways to express this energy. Another is to research the history of your home or a family property. If you are thinking of buying any real estate, go with your gut feeling about a place – your instincts and intuitive abilities are likely to be strong now.

Dates to diarise:

•  3 June – Mercury trine Neptune – when you may feel compelled to write about or visit a large body of water

• 7 June – when time spent with family should be pleasurable and peaceful. On the down side, you may want to avoid any discussions about religion or politics now, as this could lead to arguments.

• 11 June – when making important changes to your dietary habits or taking steps to resolve a nagging health problem could really get you impressive results. Alternatively, you could decide to take a more laid back, compassionate or philosophical approach to leadership, which promises to pay off big time on the 26th

• 26 June – when a male family member could offer you some really important advice or assistance, possibly in connection with a medical, spiritual or health matter.

•  Tensions stirred up around last month’s Uranus-Pluto square are likely to return as all the personal planets take their turn to clash with the planetary rebel.

Days to watch out for disruptive, unexpected or wilful behaviour are:

• 8 June – when you could get into an unexpectedly heated argument about a childcare, dietary or domestic issue

• 12 June – when you and a lover, creative type or money man could come to blows, possibly about living arrangements, food budget or a mortgage

• Fortunately, there will also be a few positive days in which to kiss and make up, or just find novel solutions to nagging problems. These include the 2nd and 17th.

Retrogrades

Mercury and Neptune are both due to retrograde in this month – Neptune, on the 7th, and Mercury on the 27th making it a good time to review holiday or travel plans, rework family writing projects, or revision creative initiatives, especially those involving photography or interior design. Be careful of misunderstandings and deception now too, and avoid signing up to any new deals until at least the 21st of July, where possible.

Ingresses

Another event to watch out for is the ingress of lucky, optimistic Jupiter into Cancer on the 26th – the sign where it is exalted – where it will remain for just over a year. Use this auspicious time to start a family, build an extension to your house, start a cookery business or buy a boat or property near the sea. Time spent with family should be particularly special and fun now.

The lesser benefic, Venus will also ingress into two signs this month; first into Cancer on the 3rd, followed by a second ingress into Leo on the 27th. Use the first ingress to beatify your home and enjoy pleasurable get-togethers or a holiday with family. Venus’ presence in Leo is likely to amp up the glamour and make you feel you want some attention from the opposite sex. Visits to the theatre and past times involving luxury goods or services are also likely now.
